The beginning

Back in 1917, a visionary called Mr Velayudhan founded a coir exporting business in Alleppey, the land of coir. Values like trust, dedication and professional ethics formed the basis of this century-old business group.

 

What started as a coir exporting company has grown to be a 50 million dollar annual business group.

With six autonomous, self-propelled business groups whose success is most apparent by their impressive list of overseas clients and associates. Now in its fifth generation.

The group now comprises of a Super Specialty Hospital and a major Social welfare organization that patronizes, among a host of following other charitable institutions, a fitting tribute to the founder’s social commitment.

​Travancore Cocotuft is the modern offshoot of this group. Started as an Indo-German joint venture with its own manufacturing factories for Tufted Coir Mats, Woven Jute Rugs and Moulded Rubber / Polypropylene Mats. 


In 2020 Cocotuft became the largest exporter of doormats from India exporting 2500 container loads to over 85 countries.


Cocotuft’s design pallet includes more than 15 catalogues containing 20000 designs to help develop market-oriented and buyer-centric design themes with complementing seasonal collections to give an edge.

MANUFACTURING CAPABILITIES

Quality Management System

Cocotuft has implemented a comprehensive Quality Management System as part of implementing ISO 9001: 2008 standards and it includes efficient sourcing mechanism, rating system for maintaining an approved vendor list, random samples taken from each lot are inspected at its testing laboratories to ensure that raw materials conform to certified standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for each aspect of production, Identification and Trace-ability. 

 

Cocotuft is one of the promoters of the Common Facility Center-a storage and treatment facility of Hazardous waste.

Social Compliance/Accountability

Cocotuft has been certified as a SA 8000: 2008 company by SAI, a U.S. based, nonprofit organization dedicated to implementing voluntary verifiable social accountability standards guarantees a work environment and remuneration that meets or exceeds local as well as international legal requirements.

 

We are also Sedex SMETA 4 PIllar Audited.

WORLD RECORD HOLDER FOR MANUFACTURING THE WORLD’S LONGEST HANDLOOM MAT

4 workers spent 111 man-days on a coir Handloom to insert 4,70,000 coir tufts between alternate wefts of coir yarn at a cost of around US $ 10,000 to complete this feat.
